Jakarta. Chinese iron and steel company Rockcheck Group and local conglomerate Rajawali Corpora have donated over a million surgical masks and gloves to help health workers face more waves of Covid-19 patients.

The collaboration resulted in two donations channeled through the conglomerate's philanthropic arm Rajawali Foundation and its business unit Jogja Magasa Iron (JMI), Rajawali Corpora's executive advisor Satrio Tjai said on Monday.

The first donation of thousands of masks was given to the Central Java provincial government. The second batch was sent to Yogyakarta and state-owned steel company Krakatau Steel.

Both donations involved members of the Indonesian Global Compact Network (ICGN) and communities in areas where Rajawali and its subsidiaries operate.

Recently, Rajawali and the Rockcheck Care program handed over personal protective equipment to Krakatau Steel's medical workers and communities in Cilegon.

The donation was received by Krakatau Steel's human resources director Rahmad Hidayat.

"We will also donate masks to medical workers in various other health facilities and Covid-19 referral hospitals," Satrio said.

The second stage of the assistance program also coincided with the arrival of the Ramadan fasting month.

To celebrate Ramadan's spirit of giving, Rajawali's business units will launch more activities to help the government curb the pandemic.

"These donations signal Rockcheck and Rajawali's commitment to work together with the government and communities to curb the spread of the coronavirus," Rajawali Foundation Director Agung Binantoro said.

The Rockcheck Group has so far donated 100 million yuan ($14.1 million) and has helped eight countries severely affected by the pandemic to flatten their infection curves.

Rajawali has also been running the company following Covid-19 protocols including physical distancing, working from home and limiting travels.
